Eyebrook Reservoir

Weekly report ending 2nd September 2018

Tel: 01536 770264        Fishery Mobile: 07738 490667

Weekly Stats:

Number Rods: 231   Number Trout Taken: 312 Number Trout Released: 1024  Total Catch: 1336

Rod Average: 5.8

The great sport continues ! Eyebrook on top form, 231 anglers visited the reservoir this week and caught a total of 1336 fish for a rod average of 5.8! The fish remain very spread across open water, with a few fish starting to show past the Island. Drifts across the main basin proving most successful, fishing dries with plenty of fish to cast too. Smaller daddies, natural colours, moved across the surface, hoppers, and big reds are all worth fishing. Fish are also being cauaght on the nympns, small is the key to success though. Size 16 black buzzers or Diawl bachs well worth a try. Bank anglers are taking a few fish from along the Liecester bank but often find the fish are at that 40 to 50 yards mark from the bank and are frustratingly just that little bit too far out.

There have been many excellent returns this week with many boats recording cricket scores. Andy Birkett and Brent Vinall were one of those. Whilst enjoying a three day break at Eyebrook. (we offer 2, 3 and 4 day breaks that can be spread across any of our four waters, visit our website for more information http://www.flyfisheyebrook.co.uk/prices/short-break-packages/) Andy and Brent visited the reservoir in hope of top of the water sport. They certainly weren’t disappointed after catching over 20 fish to the boat each day. The pair fished a washing line with size 16 buzzers or dry daddies across the basin to great affect. They also found fish out from mucky bay. Big fish and rudder expert Steve Rainbow come in pursuit of another monster this week. (steve caught a 12lb rainbow earlier in the year at Eyebrook and is currently holding the biggest fish of the season spot) He made many long drifts through the middle and caught 15 fish on large fly patterns such as snakes or tubes. Steve caught on intermediate or slow sink lines proving all the fish are near the surface.

Mark Rooney and Lloyd Pallet boat fished and returned over 30 fish. They found a washing line with nymhs worked best for the brighter conditions during the morning and big reds or emerger patterns throughout the afternoon when there was intermittent cloud cover. They found fish equally spread all across the basin.

There have been a few fish showing in shallower water past the island but are ‘challenging’ to tempt in the clear water. Peter Hutchison anchoered off the wead beds at the Pens and managed to tempt one good fish of 3lb 2 oz on a hares ear.

Friday into the weekend fished exceptionally well with a rod average of nearing 7 fish a rod most days. Mr Gillespie caught 16 fish on a FAB (Foam arsed blob) Yellow owls and a popper hopper whist drifting infront of the dam wall. Mr Winser found feeding grown on fish out from the island. He fished a poper hopper and red Diawl bachs and caught 8 fish including one at 4.0lb and a 3lb 8oz specimen.

The All Abilities Friendly Fly fishers had an outing to Eyebrook on Sunday. The group, arranged by Mark Goodge, aims to support and promote fishing as a pass time for the enjoyment of all anglers. They help beginners and experienced anglers to access reservoirs across the midlands. If your looking to join a friendly group of anglers please contact the fishing lodge and we can pass your details to Mark or Like their facebook page (aafff all abilities friendly fly fishers). 12 anglers caught 55 fish most on dries from drifting boats.

The forecast this week is again for dry overcast days. The wind is due to change to a North for Tuesday and Wednesday so long drifts from the Island to the dam wall will work well. Air Temperature continues to fall as does water temperature which is currently at 18 degrees.

Eyebrook Report W/e 26th August

Eyebrook Reservoir

Weekly report ending 26th August 2018

Tel: 01536 770264        Fishery Mobile: 07738 490667

Weekly Stats:

Number Rods: 172    Number Trout Taken: 240 Number Trout Released: 736  Total Catch: 976

Rod Average: 5.7

Its been the worst summer in my memory, for fishing that is, but certainly the best August for years. The rod average for this week was a comfortable 5.7 fish per rod and with 172 anglers visiting the reservoir, the boats have been particularly busy. We recommend booking well in advance on 01536 770 264.

Boats have enjoyed long drifts across open water. The favourite drift currently being the Hawthorn Hedge to netted bank or Three tress. Dry flies are generally catching most of the fish. Tan daddies, not too big, or a team of hoppers are doing the business. Nymphs have also worked fished on a washing line. A red holographic Diawl Bach is always a favourite here at Eyebrook.

Bank anglers have caught fish, particularly during the morning. The hawthorns or Belle are top spots with the dam wall certainly worth a try. Remember to wear a life jacket whist fishing the dam wall. Life Jackets are supplied at the lodge.

Conditions have been pretty good all week, with the occasional exception of heavy showers or a blusterier period. Roy and Bill bank fished on Monday morning. Conditions were ‘spot on’ for dries fished along the weed beds around the Belle and Hawthorn hedge. Both anglers caught, and Bill had 5 nice fish, a couple with silver rays running through their tails. Mr Thomas and friends enjoyed a short two-day break with us at Eyebrook. The group of 5 anglers enjoyed the good sport and caught on Cdc’s and other dries. (we offer two three and four day packages which can be split between any of our four waters, visit our website for more information – www.flyfisheyebrook.co.uk.

Tuesday was very much a day of two halves. Perfect conditions to start the day, a steady south westerly with cloud cover turned in to bright with flat calm periods by 2.00pm. Typically warden Jobe had an early finish that day and began his afternoon session at 2.00pm just as the sun broke through! He fished various hoppers and found the fish much preferred them fished sub surface, with hares ear or black taking most fish. Dave Shear had a very successful morning session and caught 7 fish, 5 of which fell to daddies the other 2 took a blob.

Eyebrook guide and fishery warden Lee Henfrey has had some exceptional sport his week, fishing the reservoir on all three of his days off! Lee has recorded ‘cricket scores’ whilst fishing a pale natural daddy with plenty of floatant to ensure it sat proudly on the surface. Lee knows all of our waters exceptionally well and has fished Eyebrook since he was a boy. Having represented the country numerous times, he is an expert in all areas of fly fishing. Lee is available for guiding on all our waters. For more information or too book lee please call 01788 812018 and ask to speak to tuition manager Tom Bird.

The rod average has been steady throughout the week, Thursday saw an average of 5.9 . Member Pete Welton and boat partner Mr Taylor caught 15 fish between them whilst drifting the front of the dam wall. Terry Bayes and boat partner Ash cooper had an exceptional day catching on various methods fished high in the water, from a drifting boat. Jamie Scott caught 9 fish including a 4lb brown trout on a Midas, Pheasant tail nymph and black cormorants fished on a floating line.

Conditions were pretty appalling for Sunday. Extremely heavy rain from 11.00 am and winds with gusts of 30 mph made for challenging conditions. Blobs or white lures worked best, pulled through the wave. Mr Darlow and Mr Evens caught over 20 fish from the middle of the basin and had several double hook ups. Mr Mitchel and Mr Burn caught 11 fish each on Fabs (foam arsed blobs) and daddies, again pulled through the surface to induce a take.

The forecast for the week ahead is for overcast days with a south westerly wind. We have another 1100 fish scheduled to be stocked this week so the good sport will continue!

Eyebrook Reservoir

Weekly report ending 19th August 2018

Weekly Stats:

Number Rods: 153    Number Trout Taken: 133 Number Trout Released: 520  Total Catch: 653

Rod Average: 4.3

The good sport continues at Eyebrook. Cool, overcast days with a south westerly have made perfect conditions for dry fly fishing. Water temperature is still slowly dropping and is now down to 19 degrees again. The fish remain spread across the basin, with nothing showing any further north than the island. Long drifts from Dogwood bay or The Hawthorns proving most successful. Natural Daddies or Hoppers are taking the majority of fish . Other anglers are fishing with blobs or washing line nymphs. Bank anglers are catching fish at the Hawthorn hedge, dam wall and Dogwood bay. The fishing has generally been consistent throughout the day, with the exception of the odd cold evening. This has put the fish off the top on a couple of occasions.

Super conditions on Monday saw the rod average go over the 7 fish a rod mark. Most fish came to the dries, Draycote member Ed Douglas netted over twenty fish. (members can fish all reservoirs on a reduced permit rate). Mr Moffitt took seventeen fish whilst fishing a washing line with size 14 buzzers drifting the main basin. Mr P Smith bank fished into the evening and caught 5 nice fish fishing just on the edge of the weed beds.

Tuesday saw a cooler wind with a hint of north in it. Most boats drifted into he dam wall fishing dries. Lots of fish were still showing particularly into Harrison’s corner. Father and Son duo Mark and Scott Seabrook caught 15 fish between them whilst boat fishing.

Wednesdays average 4.9. A stronger wind meant most boats opted for shorter drifts from the Hawthorns or Belle. Thornton Member Norman Perkins enjoyed his visited to Eyebrook. Catching 15 fish for the day on Big reds or claret hoppers. Steve Lawrence had an evening boat and found fish straight away in dogwood bay. He caught 9 fish on blobs pulled through the surface.

Wet weather on Thursday didn’t deter the fish at all. Mr Hazlet caught 7 fish on wickhams, teal blue and silver and a daddy whilst boat fishing in the basin. Mr cooper drifted into Harrisons corner and caught fourteen fish for an afternoon session. He fished a single fly after being ‘smashed up’ having several double hooks ups. The fly of choice was a foam arsed blob fished on a floating line.

Top boat out on Friday were members Stuart Bilsdon and Tony Tibbett. They drifted the basin into Harrisons corner and caught over twenty fish to the boat pulling various flies through the surface. Bill Law bank fished at the Hawthorn hedge and caught 5 fish on a suspended hares ears pattern he ties himself. Bill also mentioned having a lot of offers and lost fish.

The weekend fished equally with the majority of fish coming to the dries. Simon Hunt caught 13 fish on a small booby, diawl bachs or a holo pheasant tail nymph. Mr J Parnham caught 14 fish hoppers from a drifting boat. Tim Polito caught 9 fish on nymphs fished high in the water. Mr Machin had an interesting trip, catching 6 perch, 1 pike and 2 trout on buzzers and a caddis fly.

With settled weather and a stocking every week the good sport looks set to continue, it’ll soon be time for the daddies !

Eyebrook Reservoir

Weekly report ending 12th August 2018

Weekly Stats:

Number Rods: 83   Number Trout Taken: 119 Number Trout Released: 328  Total Catch: 447

Rod Average: 5.4

Eyebrook is on ‘top form’, and doing what is renowned for, world class top of the water sport. Cooler air temperatures, particularly at night combined with windier days and heavy showers has lowered water temperature by a degree a day and is currently a much more fish friendly 18.5 degrees. The fish reacted to this pretty much over night and from mid-week there were plenty of fish moving in the surface across much of the reservoir.

Boat anglers have enjoyed fantastic sport. Long drifts across the basin proving to be most successful. Starting from the lodge corner and drifting on a steady south westerly breeze to the netted bank. The majority of fish have come to dry flies or a washing line set up. Size 14 red holographic Diawl Bachs are a common mention on the returns page. Certainly, the smaller nymphs proving to be more successful, most probably due to how clear the water currently is. With cloud cover dries have worked well. Orange bodied daddies are always a favourite fly here at Eyebrook. Fished static or on other occasions move them through the surface causing a wake will induce a take. Other anglers have fished with hoppers, on, in or under the surface. What appear to be rising fish can often be miss leading to some anglers. Sometimes movement on the surface can indicated a fish feeding just benefit the surface film. Often a hopper that has slightly sunk will tempt these fish, so don’t be afraid to let your hoppers sink slightly, often this is deadly way of catching fish.

Bank anglers have been catching fish from the Stones, Dogwood bay and of an evening The Belle to Hawthorns. Weed beds have grown fast over the past months with the amount of sunlight, but still aren’t causing to many problems for bank anglers. A washing line keeps your flies just above any weed or dry flies are the best tactics.

The week started warm, water temperature was over 20 degrees and the bright sun didnt help at all. Wednesday saw the first signs of change. A stronger south westerly put oxygen into the water bringing feeding fish into the surface. The English Disabled Fly Fishers held their annual Presidents Cup friendly match. Trevor Ashby had the best return of the day catching 5 fish all on dry flies drifting from Dog wood Bay. Stuart Hume had the best bag of 4 fish for 7lb 4oz. Father and son duo Steve and Dave Lawrence had an evening boat. (Evening boats are currently from 16.45pm to 20.45 pm) The pair caught 10 fish for their 4 hour season on blobs and cats whiskers whilst anchored in dogwood bay.

Fridays rod average rose to 5.8 fish a rod, pretty healthy for the middle of August! Lots of fish were caught of dry flies. Tony Gill took his 14 fish o black hoppers and candy split blob. Mr and Mr Fox had a red letter day constantly catching fish on dries whilst drifting the basin.

Water temperature had fallen to 20 degrees come Saturday morning and the reservoir was boiling with fish first thing when wardens arrived on site. Brothers Chris and Lindsay Bates caught 11 fish between the during their morning session. They found more fish along the woodside bank and drifted the basin into Robbos Cabin. Bob Margery fished his favourite set up. Cats whisker on the point with a pair of Diawl Bachs as droppers caught him 14 fish whilst anchored 100 yards out from the Three Trees. Andrew Farmer caught over twenty fish and a perch for luck on very skinny Diawl Bachs fished high in the water.

A good down poor cooled the water further during Saturday night and once the rain had stopped on Sunday morning conditions looked perfect. Eyebrook held a boat tuition day hosted by assistant fishery manager Jobe Burnham and with the assistance of top guide Lee Henfrey. The day was a great success with lots of new comers landing their very first fish and others landing their first from a boat! Well done to all participants.

This concludes our boat courses for the season but we do have bank courses running in September and October across our sites. Please visit our website http://www.flyfishtuition.co.uk/

Tom Gamble fished from his float tube and caught over 10 fish from the Belle and Dogwood Bay. (there is no launch fee for float tubes at Eyebrook) Mr Lucas and his boat partner caught over 20 fished between them on dries and snakes making short drifts from the tower. Bret Hart had a very successful evening session on his float tube catching 11 fish on Diawl Bachs and a small olive nymph.

Temperatures are forecast to remain cooler particularly at night for the week a head so the good sport should continue.

Much better returns this week after a break in the weather over the weekend. The fish returned to the surface and most anglers had good success on dry flies or nymphs in the surface.

Returns have steadied up over the weekend with the return of hot bright weather, the forecast for the end of the week and weekend are for cooler weather so the good sport will hopefully return.

Members Lindsay Bates and Roy Swinfield started the week well. Fishing in dog wood bay they anchored to achieve the best presentation of their flies. They fished size 14 red holo diawl Bach’s with a small FAB on the point that sunk just sub surface. They caught well on both the FAB and diawl Bach’s and retuned 16 fish to the boat for a morning session. Mr Turner and Mr cousins had a very successful afternoon session. Conditions were perfect for dry fly. Cloud cover with a steady south westerly the pair drifted the basin to achieve 8 fish each.

Bank angling has been varied with most fish holding over the deep water. Mr Child’s caught 7 fish for an evening from the dam wall on black deer hair hoppers.

Conditions were brighter from Wednesday onwards but surprisingly the fish remained in the surface. Garry Own fished for most of the afternoon. Starting on a midge tip with blobs and diawl Bach’s he caught fish steadily for the first few hours and was surprised to  see so many fish moving on the surface he felt he was fishing under than majority of fish. He changed tactics to a dry fly approach and was very happy to net a dozen fish from the basin. Lindsay Bates was back on the water and caught the best fish of the week. A 4lb 10 oz rainbow that took a dry fly in the middle of the reservoir.

Conditions were back to ‘challenging’ for Friday into the weekend. Sawing temperatures put the fish back down and little was activity was seen on the surface.

Finally it has rained at the brook! And what a difference it has made ! Rod average for Monday to Friday was 1.4, rod average for the weekend 9.1!

It seems every fish in the reservoir is now feeding in the top few inches. Most anglers have fished close to the dam or the Leicester bank to try and find shelter from the strong winds we have experienced over the weekend. Dry fly is everyone’s favourite method, hoppers, big reds or CDCs are all doing the business ! Other anglers have chosen to fish nymphs high in the water, red holographic diawl Bach’s tied on a size 14 hook are well worth a try.

As the hot spell continued for the start of the week it was unfortunately a continuation of what seemed to be a never ending take. Not many anglers catching not many fish. The majority of fish caught were on fast sinking lines. Olli Mills took 6 fish on a di8 and tube fly whilst drifting the main basin. Steve Lawrence caught the best fish of the week. A 5lb rainbow that took a damsel pattern fished on an intermediate line. The fish was quickly returned to the water to fight another day.

Saturday saw change, very strong winds and extremely heavy thunder storms, but it was just what the reservoir needed. Pete Line and Brendan Mcmullan surprised everyone, having found a lot of fish very close in at the Belle, they fished hoppers or traditional wet flies to catch 50 fish to the boat!

Sunday saw similar conditions, a strong south westerly and heavy showers. Mark Hunt had possibly his best morning of the season so far. Fishing in front of the dam wall he caught 29 fish on various methods, it seemed the fish would eat anything after being starved for the past few weeks ! Big reds, CDCs, diawl Bach’s and dry patterns all caught fish! Eyebrook warden and guide Toff Crowther fished for an evening session with his friend Graham Hayward. The pair fished dries from a drifting boat and caught over 30 fish  between them. Toff is available for guiding, to book call the lodge on 01536 770 264.

Shaun Higgins also fished for the evening session catching 10 fish in front of the dam on red holographic diawl Bach’s and dry flies.

We are forecast cooler weather for the next few days so we expect the fishing to remain excellent ! We currently have boats available every day this week. Call the lodge on 01536 770 264. Also like our Facebook page – flyfishstore for all the latest news on all of our four fisheries.

Another challenging character building week. Water temperature rarely dropping below 20 degrees.

Early in the week Mr N Cheetham fished skinny buzzers on a floating line with a long cast to catch 3 fish whilst over deep water. Ian Jobe also caught 3 fish on a fast sinking line and a black and green tadpole. Mark hunt caught two fish on an intermediate and kinkier booby

Thursdays and Friday both started much cooler and overcast , fish could be seen rising across the reservoir until the sun broke through around 10 am. Members Roy Swinfield and Lindsay Bates caught two each on dries. Ian Jobe was back this time on his float tube, he used his knowledge he had learnt from Wednesday to catch 6 fish again on a black and green lure fished deep.

A tough weekend with most anglers choosing to watch the football. Members Dave Chadwick and Steve Lawrence had a morning boat and caught 2 fish each on washing line buzzers or a blob both fished on a floating line.

The cooler mornings water temperature is bringing the trout to the surface. General consensus.. choose a cooler morning to fish dries or persevere with fast sinking lines throughout the day

Clarity of the Eyebrook remains excellent with little weed growth which bodes well for the bank fishing later on in the year once normal water temperatures resume.

Eyebrook did not offer the best fishing conditions for the two heats of the John Horsey Anglers World competition

The first day was fished to competition rules but they could use any fly line. Its not surprising therefore that anglers reached for their fastest sinking lines with the heat winner Craig Barr fishing a DI8 & booby patterns 30ft down to catch his winning 6 fish catch. Overall the 21 competitors caught 28 trout for a rod av 1.3

Day 2 of the Anglers World heat was floating line only, not ideal in the current heatwave, however from experience a floating line only heat always produces a better rod average as it takes away the option of continually changing lines & doubt of should I be on a floater, hover, intermediate or one of the many variants of sinking lines. 21 rods took to the water with Tony Curtis winning the heat with 5 trout, using the mandatory floating line with a leader 25ft deep with nymph & buzzers, excellent fishing in challenging conditions the rod average 1.5 was a slight improvement on the day before.

On Sunday mid Northants Fly Fishing club visited Eyebrook with 22 rods fishing their club competition to fishery rules, again the fastest sinking lines ruled the day with Snakes been the most successful pattern. Special mention must go to Frazer Duffy jnr who caught 10 fish on the day, again excellent angling in those difficult conditions.

Clarity of the Eyebrook remains excellent with little weed growth which bodes well for the bank fishing later on in the year once normal water temperatures resume.

It’s certainly been a busy week this week at Eyebrook. Unfortunately, however the trout haven’t been busy, with water temperatures at 20 degrees plus come mid-day every day this week, it has made things rather ‘challenging’. The north wind has helped to cool the water over night and water temperature at 7.00 am, 18 inches down has been 15.5 to 17 degrees to start the day. First thing in the morning is certainly your best chance of tempted a trout at the moment.

Eyebrook held two major competitions this week. Firstly, the Disabled international. England Ireland, Scotland and wales all fished over two days to international rules to be crowned champions. Certain teams had praised hard for this match, but every day is different.

Day one dawned, anglers were met with extremely bright, flat calm conditions, everyone knew it was going to be a hard day! 28 anglers managed 30 fish for day one average of 1.07. Top rod on the day was England’s Steve Cranston with 4 fish for 7lb 2oz, good angling Steve! The forecast for day two was similar bright conditions but with more breeze, we were optimistic things would be better. However, the previous day’s high temperatures had done its damage. On day two 30 anglers stuck it out for a total of 12 fish. With the stronger winds it also made presenting flies at depth extremely difficult.

The final results were first Scotland with 22 fish for 40lb 12 oz, second were England with 10 fish for 19lb 4oz, Third to Wales with 7 fish for 11lb 4oz and Ireland forth with 3 fish for 4lb 14oz.

Well done to all anglers who took part, its just a shame we can’t control the weather! Also, a very big thank you to all the boatmen who volunteered their time and to Mark Goodge, Shaun Higgins and Ian Bradfield for all your help and hard work to ensure this event runs smoothly, it is very much appreciated by the anglers and the staff here at Eyebrook. Thank you all very much. Your kind donations go a long way to supporting the disabled international. Thank you all very much for supporting the raffle, the total raised was £912.00.

We had very few day permit anglers this week with most boats being booked for competition days or practise days. A handful of hardy bank anglers fished mainly into the evenings and caught the occasional fish mainly to dries in the last half an hour of fishing. Boat anglers have been fishing as deep as possible with fast sinking lines. Damsels, boobies and blobs have caught fish but all 20 feet plus below the surface.

Saturday and Sunday saw a first for everyone involved, the all new Loch style team championship organised by the Angling Trust and sponsored by scientific anglers. The competition would be running over two days with 6 men per team. The fishing format was different to most major competitions with three, three-hour sessions per day and only 4 of the 6-man team fishing each session with the other two anglers acting as controllers for another team. Also, this competition is different in the fact it was 100% catch and release, controllers would measure fish caught before safely returning it. 11 teams fished the match to full international rules. Things were extremely close after day one with only 4 cms between first and second, which made for a very competitive second day! All the boats could be seen drifting the middle of basin, trying to fish in the deep water with most anglers using what appeared to be fast sinking lines.

Congratulations to FNF Nymphommaniacs, they won the competition with an overall length of 1488 cms and took home the first-place prize of £4000! Second were flash attack Reservoir dogs with an overall length of 1241 and third place fell to The Fish Hawks with 1175 cms. Results and pictures can be found on our Facebook page, flyfishstore.

Coverage of the match will be broadcast on BT sport on 16th July, view the preview on our facebook page flyfishstore!

This competition will be held at Eyebrook again next year, a date will be confirmed soon!

Here at Eyebrook we look forward to hosting the New for the 2018, boat tuition days. These days are run to a similar format as the popular bank tuition days, with the difference being that the fishing is taught from a boat. In this section instructors will show participants the correct way to start & drive the boat, anchoring, drifting and boat etiquette.  This is a perfect chance to learn to boat fish just in time for the warmer temperatures pushing the fish towards the middle. There has been some good sport to be had at Eyebrook this week. Water temperatures dropped with the strong winds we had and plenty of fish were caught on floating lines in or on the surface. Bank anglers have enjoyed some cracking sport in to he evenings with a prolific sedge hatch resulting in fish rising freely right into the margins once the light levels drop. Various patterns and methods have worked this with most anglers changing tactics throughout the day to suit conditions. During bright periods sinking lines with buzzers fished static or blobs and damsels working well. On the more favourable overcast days fish have been caught of red holographic Diawl Bachs on a floating line or small skinny buzzers, tied on a size 14 or 16 hook. Most boats drifted from the Leicester bank into deeper water for the start of the week and then found more concentrated numbers of fish in front of the dam wall at depth as the brighter calmer days returned.

Mr P Owens bank fished for an evening session. He arrived at the Fishery for 5.30 and was fishing on the bank soon after 6. He had great evenings sport fishing nymphs to start with then opting for dries as more fish started to show on the surface. He caught 9 fish for his short session. (Evening permits are £10 and anglers are intitled to kill one fish with unrestricted C&R, evening permits currently start at 6.00 and fishing finished at10.00pm)

Members Ian Jobe and Clive Moore boat fished mid-week in a strong north wind making the for rough water across the main basin. The deadly duo had a great day returning 20 fish to the boat. They caught on several methods but found foam daddies moved through the surface to be the most entertained as the fish bow waved behind the fly before rolling over it. The bank fished well into the evening once again. Kieth Johnson bank fished at the hawthorns and retuned 7 fish for his evening session. Kieth fished a washing line set up with small olive or brown nymphs tied similarly to a pheasant tail to tempt his fish.

Pike fishing started this week and proved to be the most productive start to the season we have seen at Eyebrook. (it might be because of all the trout we keep putting in) Several anglers reported capturing large fish. Fishery warden Jobe Burnham and pike guide had his first outing of the season on Wednesday. It was a slow start with only one Jack before 10 o’clock. With a change of location Jobe found the feeding fish and had an exceptional two hours sport. Jobe netted a fish of 28lb 10oz, which was a personal best for him and the Eyebrook record only to hook into a 31lb monster a few casts later. After that, like a light switch the fish turned off and the afternoon was a long 8 hours. Jobe is available for guiding please call him at the lodge for further information. Please be aware that will not allow pike fishing with water temperatures above 17 degrees. We advise all anglers to contact the lodge before making their trip.

Thursday fished exceptionally well for the time of year. Wednesday strong winds certainly got the fish more active. Mr Haken and MR Smith returned over a dozen fish that ll came to a foam daddy. Mr Thompson bank fished and caught 6 fish on a small damsel pattern fished on a dloating line. MR David Hay fished the veening from a boat and returned 4 fish that came to a size 12 dry sedge pattern.

Conditions became more challenging into the weekend with extremely bright conditions and temperatures rising. Most anglers opted for sinking lines or a long midge tip to fish nymphs. Jamie Scott netted 7 fish that took damsel and blobs fished on a fast sinking line. Mr Ware fished for a short evening session off the Island. At first he could see rising fish just beyond his cast but at as the evening progressed the fish moved in the shallow water and he was delighted to catch 5 fish well grown on rainbows the biggest of whish was close to 4lbs. All his fish took a size 12 black CDC.

Eyebrook is extremely busy this week with the Disabled International and the Angling Trust 6 man team loch style competition, therefore there will be limited boat availability.
