Fishery Report: Week Ending: Sunday 16th August 2020

After a prolonged period of hot and sunny weather, the surface temperature on Eyebrook has been sitting at 21 degrees for a few days now and is obviously making the fish a little bit lethargic. Despite the temperatures, there are still plenty of fish moving near the surface out in open water that are still feeding in the surface layers. However, trying to catch them still remains challenging. Ant Hooton had a guided day out with A. Miller and managed to catch out on open drifts in the main basin area. A really good effort considering he was a complete novice at fly fishing, and the conditions have been a bit tough lately. We hope to see Ant back in the future to hone the skills he has learned from Andy. Season ticket holder Bill Stewart was treated to a day out on the water by his son Ian. Ian is more into his coarse angling but manage to catch on an Aps Bloodworm and Bill had one in the surface layers fishing Diawl bachs on a washing line. Fishery manager Jim ventured out after work and managed to land 1 good fish which came to a CDC while fishing the wind lanes on the water.

Another warm day here at Eyebrook, with the water temperature starting the day at 23 degrees, the outlook for the day was not great, as result we only had a few anglers out. Fishery Management UK guide Lee Henfrey fished with former Draycote manager Kevin Hart. The pair landed 8 fish, with 6 of them coming to dry daddies and Lee taking 2 on a Di 5 and a snake. Lee commented that they had lots of fish coming and looking at the flies and swirling, enough to land double figures each and that even in the heat dries seemed to be the best tactics. Lee & Kevin found the fish drifting from Harrison’s Corner out into the main basin and out from the second set of steps along the Dam. All water member Paul Walker also fished from the boat landing 3 fish on Diawl Bach’s from the Main Basin.

The hot days showed no signs of letting up Wednesday with water temperatures starting at 23 degrees once again and air temperatures reaching 32c. Eyebrook season ticket holder Bill Law fished the morning to land 2 fish on small CDC lures with a tungsten bead fished on a floating line in the main basin with a quick retrieve. Wednesday regulars Clive Moore & Ian Jobe landed 8 fish between them with the majority coming in the afternoon using a DI 8 sinking line and a booby fished on a short leader. Clive & Ian found the fish around the Main Basin towards the steps on the dam wall.

With another hot day in prospect on Thursday, those anglers who were due to fish decided to change their bookings to another, hopefully cooler day. This resulted in no anglers fishing, which allowed the staff to enjoy a rare early finish.

Friday was a bit cooler day and although only 2 boats ventured out, they both found feeding fish. Mark Hunt was out in the morning cathing seven, using both daddies sand CDC’s whilst Craig and Stu Richards landed three on black and green patterns fishing the three trees area.

Saturday saw anglers on the boats, on the banks and in their float tubes. Neil Shilton caught four from his float tube whilst Dave Chadwick caught two fishing the netted bank. The boats found conditions hard despite the cooler weather and intermittent drizzle. Top boat catch taken by Martin Peat and his partner who pulled bobbies through the waves, resulting in numerous fish chasing and swirling, but frustratingly only converting this interest four fish in the bass bag.

Sunday was another hot humid day, with the surface water temperature at 7.30 am still at 21 degrees. Given that this is the same as the start of the week and the impact this has had on the fish,

it wasn’t really surprising that it was a quiet day. Steve Dutton want afloat in his tube and

Two boats went out, but unfortunately the fish were not eager to put in and appearance no matter what was thrown at them.

With blistering humid sunshine, then torrential rain with thunder and lightning. This weather has truly played havoc with the fishes feeding habits and only the brave few anglers who ventured out were rewarded.

Looking forward in to the up and coming week, the conditions are looking to improve for fishing. But Eyebrook currently has 18 of her boats on loan to Draycote till the 23^rd of August, so prior booking is a must to guarantee a boat.

After a blisteringly hot weekend, Monday seemed to be a bit cooler with some cloud cover and a nice breeze from the north west. The conditions looked to be perfect. However, it became quite evident that the hot weather over the weekend has left the fish being a bit lethargic. With only a few lucky individuals catching fish.

Tuesday began with a moderate wind from the south west with good cloud cover and lower temperatures. Unlike previous days, there didn’t seem to be as much activity in the surface. Most of our anglers found the fishing challenging, but J Deacon managed 3 good hard fighting fish to the bank while exploring around the banks of the reservoir. All water ticket holder Lindsay Bates and Eyebrook regular Martin Seabrook both managed to bring 3 fish to the boat out in open water while drifting.

Wednesday started off overcast with some strong winds coming from the South West which has presented us with some cooler conditions. Obviously, the trout enjoyed the cooler weather and decided to come out and play today. Clive (The Chairman) and Ian (The Ghillie) enjoyed a great day out on the water, both managing to bring more than 20 fish to the boat while fishing more modern flies and breaking from fishing nymphs and dries. Mr A Birley finished up a challenging 3-day visit with 8 hard fighting fish to the boat after receiving some guidance from Fishery Management Andy Miller. Yet again, Mr Mark Hunt put in a good show by taking 7 fish on open drifts while fishing Black Sedgehogs and Bibio Sedgehogs. An outstanding day resulting in a rod average of 5.9

Thursday started off with a very gentle breeze on the water, good cloud cover, and lots of fish moving in the surface out in the main basin. These conditions suited both the trout and the boat and bank anglers. Stewart Normington fished from the Leicestershire bank and landed nine, eight of which were safely returned, buzzers and daddies being the successful patterns. Top boat was members Roy Swinfield and Lindsey Bates who landed over 20 fish between them. All of the other boats caught, with fish mainly falling to dries. Several fish topped the three-pound mark with the best being one of about 4 pounds taken by Stuart Richards. Whilst CDCs, big reds and klinkhammer’s all caught, the best pattern was once again daddies.

Friday stated very hot and flat calm, conditions that didn’t bode well and those anglers who fished in the morning struggled with only three fish being caught. By mid-afternoon, clouds had moved in, a slight wind got up and the fishing improved. Paul Walker had 15 on diawl bachs and CDCs whilst Steve Dutton went afloat in his tube and had six during his last four-hour session, these contributing to a daily rod average of just under 5, which was excellent given the weather.

Saturday was another hot day, although with a strong north north-easterly wind. Despite the rangers seeing lots of fish working along the Rutland bank near the netted bank and Harrisons corner, the fishing was disappointing, possibly due to the changing atmospheric conditions. Bob Margery caught three fish from the above areas but reported that due to the strong winds, the majority of the fish were just beyond reach from the bank. Despite the wind, the water temperature continued to rise reaching 22 degrees by 18.00

Sunday saw similar conditions to the day before with the wind still coming from the north east. Bob Margery and Dave Chadwick again fished the Rutland bank. Brian White ventured out in the afternoon and was rewarded with 1 trout by the casting platforms and a perch as well. Mark Wink and Steve Drewer headed out for a last 4 hours in the evening and managed to net 1 fish and get a few pulls. They said that they seen no ends of fish moving in Harrison’s corner, but just could not figure out what the fish were taking.

The evenings have been seeing hatches of small buzzers. So, I would edge my bets by fishing some small Diawl Bachs or buzzers either straight through or on a washing line and try to work out a depth that the fish are feeding in.

Fishery Report: Week Ending: Sunday 2^nd August 2020

Adverse weather conditions on Monday and Tuesday saw a number of anglers rearrange their fishing to take advantage of improving conditions later on in the week. Monday was very blustery and wet with several heavy showers coming through. Those that ventured afloat were in by lunchtime with nothing to show. The bank anglers were more successful, with everybody catching, especially in the evening. Small CDCs and Damsel’s were the successful patterns with Mark Hunt taking 4 in a couple of hours. Tuesday was still difficult although Lyndsey Bates used small CDCs for his 4 fish during a morning boat session, whilst Bill Law had three from the bank.

Wednesday, and the weather is starting to get hot and bright. With this, the fishing became a little bit more challenging. Mr McLeod was top rod on the day taking 6 fish on an Orange blob. Next in line was our dry fly specialist Mark hunt with 5 to the boat on the evening. Anglers were reporting fish moving all over the reservoir but finding it hard to get the fish to connect.

Thursday on his day off from his Draycote duties, Lee Henfrey hit the water again and in spectacular fashion, got well in to double figures fishing dry blue damsels. Not bad for a morning session. As for most of our anglers on the day, the reports came in that the fish were still taking dries. Mostly daddies and occasionally yellow owls as well. Quite surprising due to the bright sunshine and warm temperatures.

Friday arrived, and along with it, the hottest day of the year so far. Our water temperatures have hit 20 degrees, and so we have had to suspend the pike fishing to protect the fish. Despite the arduous conditions Bikram Thapa from the Queens Gurkha Logistics Regiment managed to land 2 fish from the bank. but other than that, the weather had supressed the fishing during the day, but the fish came back on later in the afternoon so that the guys that were out on the float tubes could catch a few fish towards the end of the day.

Bob Margery managed to whittle out 11 fish to the bank on Saturday morning. Phenomenal, considering the heat of the day before. S Dutton and M Signey had a good day out on the water on their float tubes by taking fish on foam daddies.

Sunday saw Ray Ward and Carl Mooney join Lee Henfrey and Andy Miller for a tuition session, despite the hot conditions under the guides tuition Ray & Carl managed to tempt 19 fish between the 2 boats by fishing foam daddies and dries across the main basin out in open water. Yet again, Mark hunt went out for an afternoon session and managed to tempt 5 fish to the boat by fishing Red and Bibio Sedgehogs.

Even with the hot sunny weather this week, Eyebrook has still produced good sport for this time of year particularly on dry flies. Now that we are into August, be prepared to start searching for the fish through the layers of the water as they find the cooler water in the reservoir. With the harvest getting going around the banks of the reservoir any breeze onto the water from were their working will bring with it a large number of insect for the fish to feed on as Jim Wright & Mark Hunt used to their advantage during the week

A good weeks fishing at the Eyebrook for the time of year with a rod average 2.9

Following on from a good week on Eyebrook, the week started off with bright sunshine and warm temperatures. This did not deter Draycote Staff member Lee Henfrey from venturing out and fishing dry damsel patterns which led to him taking well into double figures during a morning session. Most of the other anglers out on the water were not as fortunate as Lee but still managed to pick up fish from all over the reservoir.

Tuesday was still a bright and humid day. Ed Douglas had a good session out on the water taking a baker’s dozen of fish on dries from all over the reservoir on a 12-hour marathon session. Joe and Franny Coleman decided to fish to the conditions and managed to bring double figures of fish to the boat by fishing size 14 buzzers to devastating effect. This just goes to show that the trout are feeding on smaller buzzers during the summer months and should never be ignored.

Thursday started off with a very slight breeze from the South West which gradually got up to around 14mph by the afternoon. With the cloud cover as well as a steady wind, it looked to be Ideal conditions for fishing. However, due to the rising water temperature (19 degrees) and the changing air pressure for the past few days, It has made the fishing a little bit tougher on the surface. That being said, Bill Law once again had a good morning on the bank and managed to net 5 fish. 3 of these fish were good solid 3lbs+ and had grown on from the start of the season. But top rod on the day was Mr K Harding with 9 fish to the boat using daddies and hoppers.

Friday started off the same as Thursday, but this time stayed overcast for most of the day. However, it became very humid but around lunch time which made a few anglers decide to come in for their lunch and get a bit of respite from the humidity and try to cool down. With the humidity and light winds, the fishing got tougher as the day went on. Eyebrook season ticket holder Roy Swinfield had a good morning session from the bank and netted 5 fish and lost a few more during play in around the weedbeds by the Hawthorne’s. Mr D Priestly joined us again with a group of friends following on from a bumper day a few weeks ago. He managed a good 6 fish to the boat on a day where the fish were not as forthcoming as we would like them to be. The bank has definitely outfished the boats today with G Burnham taking 5 from the bank as well. Eyebrook manager Jim took to the water after work to see if he could tempt some fish from deeper in the water column. But after starting on a Di3 sweep and moving it through the water, he hadn’t had a touch until fishing a midge tip with 2 boobies and a nymph in between. Not until fishing a team of dries, did he start properly hooking in to fish and finally put one in the boat from the middle of the basin before heading home at 7PM.

Saturday was quieter probably due to some predicted adverse weather, but the fishing was much improved with bank, tube, and boat anglers all recording some good catches for a daily rod average of just under 5. Bank regulars Bob Margery and Dave Etty fished the morning session along the Leicester bank with dries and took 9 and 8 respectively whilst from a boat, Mark Hunt took 20 plus fish on dries, with sport improving into the afternoon and evening. Neil Shilton went afloat in his tube and took 15. Also, on Saturday, brothers Lawrence and Gerald attended Eyebrook’s first boat tuition day this season.

After a morning’s classroom session, they went afloat with in-house guide’s Lee Henfrey and Andy Miller and enjoyed a successful afternoon putting the theory into practice, catching several fish on daddies. After the heavy overnight rain, Sunday began brighter with south westerlies which strengthened as the day wore on to become quite blustery by mid-afternoon which hampered presentation. Consequently, the returns were not as good as Saturday from either bank or boat. Malcolm Thompson landed 4 off the bank whilst Bill law managed to land 2 on small CDC’s from amongst the weedbeds. Top boat rod was Mr. Forsyth who landed 6 to his boat.

A great weeks fishing at the Eyebrook for the time of year with a rod average 3.0

Weed is starting to show along some of the shallower margins, anglers are fishing above the weed as the trout are on the outside edge, unusually for the Eyebrook during July the bank some days has out fished the boats with some bank anglers getting in double figure catches.

Monday started us off with a moderate north westerly wind blowing from Sam’s Dyke towards Robbo’s cabin. The day started off quite mild, but the humidity started to climb as the morning progressed. As we moved into the afternoon the wind started to pick up slightly and there were a few shower spells. S Conway and S Conway had a fantastic day out on the water fishing CDC’s and yellow owls to get them well in excess of double figures each to the boat, making them top boat on the day. The fish seem to be just holding off the weedbeds all the way from Sam’s Dyke to Dogwood bay. Rod average for the day was 4.5.

Tuesday started off a bit damp after a night of rain and presented us with an overcast morning with a North Westerly wind at 10 mph which steadily climbed as the day progressed. First Angler back in before lunch time was local legend and season ticket holder, Bill Law who managed 10 fish to the bank in a great morning session. Bill was fishing small CDC’s with a booby on the point. The fish were either taking the CDC’s or just running away with the booby. Long-time boat partners and Eyebrook season ticket holders Bill Whittle and Rob Watson had another great morning boat session bringing 10 and 6 to the boat, respectively. To change things up a bit, Mr Mathews and Mr Bissett offered the fish something a little different and managed to bring a dozen fish to the boat using Dabblers, Soldier Palmers and FAB’s. Fish are still holding just on the lake side of the weedbeds. Obviously with the weed coming up, the conditions favour the boat anglers, but Bill Law has shown that the fish can still be taken from the bank.

Another day of great conditions Wednesday, with overcast skies all day. David Parker fished around the Bell from a boat using a washing line to take 9 fish with most of the fish taking the FAB on the point. All water season ticket holders Ian Jobe and Clive Moore enjoyed a good day afloat with the pair landing their fish on either a washing line or dries fishing around Sam’s Dyke and off the Hawthorns. The boat paring of J Thompson & R Bright used a mix of dries and washing line to take 8 fish between them, firstly using big reds in the morning. Then later using a Blakeston Buzzer fished on a washing line in the afternoon. Dick Spicer also used a washing line, to take his 7 fish, although Dick found it was a green buzzer doing the damage. All water season ticket holder Norman Perkins fished over the open water in the main basin fishing with suspender Diawl Bachs to take his 5 fish. A trickier day for the bank anglers than in previous days with the few bank anglers taking fish from the Hawthorns to Sam’s Dyke.

As Thursday arrived, so did Mr Bill Law with his little magic CDC’s again. Bill headed straight to the same hot spot he had fished a few days before and was not disappointed. Fishing his size 12 and size 14 CDC’s, he managed about half a dozen fish in about 45 minutes. Bill finished up his morning session with 12 fish to the net. All water ticket holder Jim Greasley managed 8 good hard fighting trout fishing dries from a boat, making him the top individual boat rod on the day. All water ticket holder Steve Orton also had a good day out on the water fishing yellow owls and bibio hoppers out in open water in the wind lanes to snare a good half dozen fish. The mornings seem to be fishing better than the afternoon and evenings at the moment and the change in wind direction seems to have had some effect on the fish feeding.

As the weekend approaches and Friday begins, the cloud cover that was providing ideal sorts of conditions has started to fade away, the temperatures and humidity seem to be on the rise as well. Despite the bright sunshine and temperatures rising, Stewart Normington managed an impressive 10 fish to the bank fishing dries and buzzers throughout the day. All water ticket holder and Eyebrook regular Mark hunt headed out on the water with his brother. Mark said it was a hard day but between them they managed to bring 10 fish to the boat fishing CDC’s. Mr S Dutton ventured out in the afternoon and managed 7 trout the boat as well as a couple of perch and a bleak. Mr Dutton was fishing a washing line with Diawl Bachs and a FAB with most of the fish coming to the FAB.

Saturday and the conditions have reverted back to being overcast with a gentle breeze from the north west & again the bank continued to out fish the boats with Eyebrook season ticket holders Dave Chadwick and Dave Etty managing to bring 10 fish to the bank each by fishing foam daddies and CDC’s over the weedbeds between the casting platforms and the hawthorns. Mr Ky Ly managed a cool 10 fish to the float tube during his visit with fellow float tube enthusiast and DCAC member John Lewis who managed 4. The cooler spell of weather has definitely helped with the fishing today.

Sunday, and with the wind continuing to come in from the North, it makes it ideal for a drift from Sam’s Dyke to Dogwood bay. But just remember, if you are drifting along the bank, be aware of anchored boats and bank anglers and always try to leave them at least 50m space. Malcolm Thompson caught 6 whilst Bank fishing with Neil Shilton taking to his tube to catch 11, water clarity is excellent.

Fishery Report: Week Ending: Sunday 12^th July 2020

Another good July week for the Eyebrook with a rod average 3.9

The week started the way the previous finished with a windy day, which made presentation a little challenging at times. Eyebrook season ticket holder Steve Kolkowski enjoyed a great days sport landing 11 fish all on winged hares ears fishing around the Main Basin and towards the Island. Matt Kingston & Adam Langley enjoyed a last four-hour session on the boat using dry daddies to land 3 apiece around the Main Basin. Utilising a float tube through the main basin Mr T Milano landed 5 fish, on a washing line set up using a floating line.

As Tuesday started, our anglers were met with mild conditions that were very near perfect. Eyebrook manager Jim finally pulled himself away from his duties to enjoy a morning session out on the water and was rewarded with 8 good hard fighting fish to the boat in about an hour whilst fishing yellow owl’s just off the weedbeds at Sam’s Dyke area. The conditions were perfect for the float tubers and all of the anglers who ventured out in tubes had in excess of 8 fish each. All falling to a variety of flies from hoppers and daddies to blobs and boobies. Moral was high in the lodge thanks to Mr Gordon Wignall dropping off a delicious coffee and walnut cake for the lodge staff to enjoy with a brew.

Wednesday arrived with conditions well suited to the float tubers and this was evident as Mr N Shilton managed yet another bumper day out on the water bringing well in excess of double figures of fish to the tube. Mr Mathews and Mr Bissett had another good day with 20 fish to the boat between them fishing Damsels and Diawl Bachs between Sam’s dyke and the point of the Island. As the weedbeds are starting to grow, it is clear to see that the fish are sitting just off the weedbeds away from the bank which is making life a little more difficult for our bank anglers.

As Thursday descended on us the conditions were wet and the wind was blowing down the reservoir towards the dam. We were joined by the Bull Fly fishers for a group day out. Top rods on the day for them were C McCormick and J Kitiling with 5 fish each to the boat. Mr P Havard managed to whittle out 6 to the boat fishing orange daddies then black buzzers just south of the Island. But top rod of the day goes to Mr Coups who tempted a dozen hard fighting fish to the boat from 12 o’clock onwards.

Friday was a busy day on the lake and word had spread that there was a good stamp of fish in and around the Sam’s dyke area of the lake. Best rod on the day was Eyebrook season ticket holder Simon K, who once again had a fantastic day getting well into double figures fishing his lake olive. Fishery manager Jim Wright managed to get out for a few hours out on the water between 10AM and 2PM and managed 8 to the boat, lost 4 in play and missed half a dozen other knocks. Most of the fish fell to an Olive pheasant tail buzzer fished between a FAB and a foam daddy on a floating line. The fish were feeding just below the surface and a couple of buoyant flies were essential to keep them high in the water.

Saturday was a lovely day with a gentle breeze but very little cloud cover. Despite the bright sunshine, most of our visitors managed between 4 and 6 fish a piece. Lee Henfrey managed a morning out on the water and tempted in a cool dozen to the boat. But once again, all water season ticket holder and dry fly aficionado Mark Hunt produces a dry fly masterclass by getting well into double figures on a last 4 hours outing fishing adult Damsels and CDC’s. Absolutely outstanding Mark.

As the week drew to a close on Sunday, Jason Pusey, our young boatman and specimen/predator hunter ventured out for a morning in an effort to try and capture one of our resident big browns. Unfortunately, he didn’t manage a big brown but did have half a dozen large perch and a follow from a large brown from the depths. Local Regular Angler Olly Mills was top rod on the day managing to tempt 8 rainbows to the boat as well as a couple of large Perch. Although the top of the water sport has been quite prolific in the past few weeks, it is always a good idea to keep an eye on the water temperatures. As the temperatures start to climb, the fish will more than likely start to drop through the water column to find the cooler water. so never discount using the midge tips and intermediate lines to find the depths that the fish are sitting in. as the weedbeds are growing, it is making the bank fishing that little bit harder, but fishing over the weedbeds with a single CDC/ yellow owl can really make the difference and tempt up fish that are feeding within the weedbeds.

Fishery Report: Week Ending: 5th July 2020

A great weeks fishing at the Eyebrook for the time of year with a rod average 5.7

Monday started off with a wild wind blowing from the Leicester bank and by lunch time it was just under our limit for allowing boats out. Most Anglers had checked the up and coming weather reports and had called to rearrange their day out. But for the brave few souls that ventured out, they were rewarded with some unbelievable sport in some windy conditions. D Priestly and his sister ventured out on the water, part of an annual event to remember their father by who had brought them fishing to Eyebrook while growing up. Mr Priestly called the lodge the next day to thank us for such an amazing days fishing and how welcoming the staff had been with them. He personally had well in to double figures of fish to the boat and had constant attention from the fish all day long while fishing a foam daddy on the top dropper, a Silver Invicta on the middle dropper and a wingless whickams on the point. Outstanding Angling! All water season ticket holder Ged O’Donoghue had an outstanding day from the bank, fishing from lunch time through to nearly 9 o’clock at night managing to get in to double figures on Pheasant tails and Hopper patterns. Eyebrook season ticket holder J Reid ventured out for a morning in the boat and was rewarded with a single Rainbow estimated to be between 5 – 6Lbs which was safely returned to fight another day.

Tuesday was a lovely mild morning with a gentle breeze and perfect cloud cover. with the conditions being so good our anglers were treated to a fantastic day of sport. Many of our anglers were reporting well in to double figures both from the bank and from the boat. Mr Willie Bryson from Nova Scotia had an eventful day out exploring the water and catching fish from all over the reservoir on nymphs and wet flies. We are looking forward to him returning for follow up visits in the near future. Mr P Walker had an outstanding day and was top rod of the day and even managed a pike while fishing Diawl Bach’s. Tuesday certainly was a day when the fish came out to play which gave us a rod average of 8.6

Wednesday continued on from the Tuesday with fish all over the reservoir turning up and giving a good account of themselves. Top boat of the day was Eyebrook’s very own dynamic duo Clive Moore and Ian Jobe who managed well in to double figures each and even had time to pop in to sit under the big oak tree to have lunch. They certainly enjoy their Wednesday outings to Eyebrook. Wednesday was a perfect day out for the float tubers with All water ticket holder Neil Shilton having another outstanding day getting well in to double figures again.

Thursday and its plain to see that word has got out that Eyebrook has been on top form lately. T Fox and P Barker had a bumper day out in the boat fishing orange Culs and managing to get good sport from all over the lake with both of them getting in to double figures. Most of our anglers are reporting back that foam daddies are fishing well and have been really effective with a couple of small wet flies behind them.

Friday arrived and the winds were starting to pick up but the conditions were still good enough to get out on the water. All water ticket holder Lindsay Bates had a phenomenal morning session out in the boat and managed to net well into the double figures fishing crippled midge patterns. Eyebrook season ticket holder Simon K continues his impressive run on the lake, once again catching well in to double figures on small lake olives. The sport on the lake has been fantastic this week and held a steady rod average just above 5.

Saturday arrived and with it, some very strong winds in the morning which dropped ever so slightly in the afternoon which gave our guests a bit of a challenging day out on the water. Despite the wilder winds, Mr P Gordon managed to get well in to double figures fishing a

Yellow Owl out in some big waves. Eyebrook Season ticket holder Dave Etty once again brought his A game and got in to double figures from the bank, once again on foam daddies.

Sunday and things stated to slow down a little. But Eyebrook regulars Steve Lawrence and Dave Chadwick managed a good 6 a piece from the bank during a morning session down by the hawthorns. Mike Oliver managed to get in to double figures from the bank fishing Pheasant tail Nymphs on a Washing line. D Metcalfe and A Metcalfe managed 9 each to the boat fishing black buzzers.

There are a lot of fish now moving along the bank from Dogwood bay all the way to Sam’s Dyke as well as out in the main basin towards Harrisons corner and weed cutter bay. The most widely reported working fly has definitely been the foam daddies along with hoppers and silver invictas. All these flies are available from the shop. Fishery Report: Week Ending: 28th June 2020

Monday welcomed us with a gentle breeze and some good cloud cover in the morning. Even with the near perfect conditions’ things were still tough for our bank anglers. Season ticket holder Mr T Dickson managed to take 3 from the bank on foam daddies. Local regular angler Steve Sibley had a really good day with 6 from the bank. Most of the action was from the boats. Season ticket holders and regular boat partners R Watson and B Whittle had a great morning session with 9 and 7 respectively to the boat on Muskins patterns fishing the washing-line method.

Tuesday rolled in with bright hot sunshine and little wind. The conditions were going to be challenging for the day ahead, and possibly for the next few days as the weather reports were showing that the temperatures were due to keep rising this week. Top rod of the day was S Normington, managing to tempt 11 fish to the bank using Buzzers and Diawl Bachs or dries. Roger Kerrison and Mick Griffin were top boat of the day managing into double figures to the boat. The evening hatches of small sedge are huge and the fish seem to be preoccupied in the evening feeding just sub surface with the occasional trout breaking the surface. We now have a good selection of dry sedge patterns in stock at the lodge.

Wednesday and we are into the hottest day of the year so far. Bright sunshine and little wind presented our anglers with very challenging conditions. All water season ticket holder Neil Shilton was best rod out on the water today. He managed to net 7 fish throughout the day from his float tube fishing Damsel nymphs around the Island area. Stephen Bolton and Bill Hammond managed to bring 5 to the boat, managing to snare their fish on foam daddies just off the willows. All water ticket holder Phil Mee managed to tempt 1 fish to the boat but reported shoals of trout at the far end of the dam at Harrison’s corner.

Thursday and the temperatures starting to soar again. Blazing sunshine with little wind and temperatures hitting nearly 30 degrees made difficult conditions for our anglers on this day. Mr D Parker did exceptionally well by landing 9 fish using a Dunkeld sparkler and a hothead damsel fished very slowly on a Di3 sinking line out in the main basin area. Unfortunately, the Washing line method that has done so well for the past few weeks was of no real use today as the fish were sitting quite a bit deeper in the cooler water. At this time Pike fishing has been suspended to protect the fish as the water temperatures were hitting 22 degrees. For those Eyebrook anglers who may not usually fish with a sinking line we will soon have a range of demonstration Sinking lines for you to take out & try. Ask at the lodge for details

Friday rolled in just as hot as Thursday had been. Due to the heat and sunshine the brave few ventured out on to the water. All Water member Mr A Russell had a bumper day out on his float tube and was well into double figures and reported back that he had returned a 5lbs+ brown. Given the hot bright conditions, everyone who ventured out in boats managed to catch fish.

Saturday arrived with more favourable conditions, with a bit of rain seemed to bring the place to life. All water season ticket holder Neil Shilton had an outstanding day on the float tube and managed to get well in to double figure of fish landed. D Metcalfe and A Metcalfe both got in to double figures from the boat fishing soldier palmers, red & black Diawl Bachs and GRHE patterns. Local Season Ticket holder Dave Etty once again had a good catch from the bank fishing damsels and daddies. The day ended on a rod average of 10. Showing that the fish have really come out to play today.

Sunday welcomed back Mark Goodge and the All Abilities Fly Fishers who had an outstanding day with a rod average of 16.09 between the 11 anglers. Well done to all those involved. This has given us a boost in confidence that the Covid 19 Guidelines we have put in place to protect our anglers has been widely received and given people the confidence to come out and feel that they are protected during their visit. Eyebrook regulars and season ticket holders Steve Lawrence and Dave Chadwick had a great morning fishing from the bank with both of them getting well into double figures. A great feat considering the fishing from the bank has been very difficult due to the bright sunshine and warm temperatures. All water ticket holder and regular visitor Mark Hunt managed to get in to double figures from the boat on a short morning outing fishing Bibio hoppers and daddy patterns. M Thomas and T Wallace had a cracking 4 hours out in the afternoon to put double figures of fish in the boat. Apparently, there are fish moving out in the open water and quite partial to a Silver Invicta or a lightly dressed Hare’s Ear.

The water temperatures have now dropped back down to 17.5 Degrees due to the rain and cooler weather. The positive side of that is that it has woken the fish up and they are feeding really well which has brought up an outstanding Rod Average of 12.29 for the week. So now is the time to get booked in for a day out.

Fishery Report: Week Ending: 21st June 2020

This week continues with reports of some good top of the water action despite the sunny and still day on Monday. Anglers are reporting fish moving in the surface all over the lake, but the concentrations of fish are still in the same areas that have been producing for the past week or so, although the surface water temperature is going upwards towards 19 degrees

A special mention for our All water Season ticket holder Steve Orton, who despite the trout being very selective in their food selection, managed to hook and land his PB Tench. Our young Ranger Jason popped out with the scales to weigh it. The Tench came in at 7lbs 6oz. Unfortunately, we do not have a picture of the fantastic specimen to share with you. Steve went on to catch trout on red diawl bachs Yellow owl. D Mathews caught 5 on hoppers with A Wither fishing hoppers & buzzers to take his 4 trout.

The 16th of June seen Eyebrook welcome back her Predator Anglers. Little wind & bright conditions for most of the day were not the best conditions. Guy Eldridge always lets us know what is going on out on the reservoir, at the end of the day and was happy to report back that there were large numbers of trout holding mid water around the Island however with the flat calm conditions plenty of 5lb to 9lb jacks were caught with one 20lb pike reported. Danny Peet also had a good day out in the Wheely boat, catching into double numbers of pike.

Ifor reported seeing plenty of trout feeding from mucky bay across to the willows, feeding on small olive midge, damsel, pin fry & daphnia with sedge being on the diet during the evening.

Roger Charles was our top trout rod of the day, getting into double figures fishing from the bank by the Chestnut tree with his fish falling to a traffic light cruncher. Local Season ticket holder Simon K managed a very respectable 7 to the boat fishing pheasant tail nymphs and Damsel patterns. Ian Jobe managed a go 8 trout while out float tubing.

Wednesday & another still day, that was until the thunderstorms came through at teatime, if we sound the klaxon it’s a sign that you should make your way back to the pontoon ASAP

All water member Ed Douglas caught 20 trout for his visit another member Neil Shilton fished from his tube to catch his 11 trout with day rod D Stone also catching 11. Small buzzers, dries, small foam backed daddies & damsels caught the majority with Stoke dry, mucky bay & the willows catching best. With the piking the smaller fish were still plentiful with Mat Harris reporting 30 pike for his two days.

Friday was a challenging day with changing wind direction and the occasional strong gusts. P Walker had a good day with up a dozen or so fish to the boat on buzzers and Diawl Bach patterns. All water ticket holder Lindsay Bates joined Fishery manager Jim Wright for a day out for 7 fish each and lots of fish on and off throughout the day. There were lots of fish showing near the surface by the chestnut tree and Stoke dry areas, but these fish were reluctant to take anything thrown at them. Obviously, a bit cautious as they have had quite a bit of pressure over the past week.

There are a good number of fish around the dogwood bay to the bell area. These fish were extremely active and would slam buzzers of diawl bachs on a washing line method fished very slowly or they would hit a blob booby on the point.

Saturday saw a few father and sons hitting the water for a day out and the Davies Family taking the kids out for a day on the water. They were rewarded with some sport near the dam whist fishing a Dunkeld, buzzer and FAB washing line method. Andy Lunn and Steve Cullen had double figures of fish to the boat fishing either dries or blob with damsels and nymph combinations. Mike Oliver had a great day of sport fishing from the bank and managed to snare 8 fish using pheasant tail nymphs and buzzers on a washing line method. The fish are still feeding near the surface with some of the larger trout coming out towards the top end of the reservoir at Stoke dry and the Chestnut tree.

Sunday was a more settled day with a nice steady breeze and some good cloud cover early in the morning and getting bright by around lunch time. Eyebrook regular and season ticket holder Dave Chadwick managed 6 from the bank fishing small foam daddy patterns and left by 12:45 as the fishing was getting a bit harder from the bank as the day progressed. Mark hunt had a full day out on the water and got in to double figures fishing small dries and thoroughly enjoyed the challenging sport. Lindsay Bates ventured out for an afternoon boat and managed double figures. Kieron Johnson managed 9 from the bank in the afternoon fishing golden olive palmers through the light waves.

As the week has progressed the pattern that is emerging is that the fish are feeding well in the morning and easily reachable for the bank anglers. But as the day progresses, the fish are moving out from the bank slightly. After 2 o’clock in the afternoon the fish seem to come back on the feed and are mostly preoccupied with damsel nymphs but can be tempted with a foam daddy or small nymphs just under the surface. As the day progresses the fish are more likely to take dries on the surface as there as quite a few small sedge’s coming off on the evening.
