Eyebrook Reservoir; Fishery report for week to 6th October 2019
Telephone Number: 01536 770264
The fishing at the Eyebrook continued to improve over the last week despite the heavy rain over the week. The levels are dropping back as the excess flood water is taken off into the Eye brook. The colour is dropping out well and a couple of early frosts seems to have helped push the fish onto the feed and has in turn led to an improvement in both the boat and bank fishing. Another 1700 fish were stocked this week, bringing the total this season to 20,600.
Despite the cold mornings, we are still seeing fish moving to dries with hoppers and daddies featuring in the catch returns. Washing line techniques featuring FABs, crunchers, Diawl Bachs and Hares Ears have proved successful and as is to be expected at this time of year, fish are falling to a variety of fry patterns including humungus, minkies, popper hoppers and snakes.
Monday and Tuesday were slow days and although there were some notable catches despite the conditions, the fishing didn’t really pick up till the Wednesday when despite the bright sun and breezy winds, the daily rod average trebled to a reasonable level in excess of 4. Fish were being caught all over the bottom half of the reservoir. Neil Shilton had over 20 fish whilst out tubing
On Wednesday, anglers from the Bank of Scotland really got into the fish during a practice day for two days of matches. Their rod average for the 11 anglers fishing was more than 5. On the Thursday, Bank of Scotland Blue fished against Bank of Scotland Red with the Blue team proving more successful on the day. A total of 93 fish were caught and returned with a 8 fish per rod. Best rod was Scott Miller with 19 fish. Most successful flies were FABS and Lures.
On the Friday, the two Bank of Scotland teams were joined by Barclays Bank to contest the TW Walker Trophy. The 18 anglers had a total of 108 fish giving a rod average of 6. Everybody caught with the winners on the day being the Bank of Scotland Blue with 44 fish for 86lb 8oz with Barclays bank second and Bank of Scotland Red third. Top rods were Scott Miller and Neil O’Shea both with 10 fish.
Other successful rods during the latter part of the week included Eyebrook member Simon Kolkowski with 10 on Pheasant Tails, Luke Key with 7 on caddis and Roy Anderson with 10 on a variety of patterns. The Farrels took ten on claret midas and yellow owls on Saturday. Clark Mondaz had a dozen on Saturday and six on Sunday whilst Mark Hammond and Rob Grimshaw also down for the weekend had 20 to the boat on Saturday and a further nine on Sunday, Minkies being their favoured pattern. Sunday was the first day of a three-day session for Mr Tranter and Mr Brewster and they took 20 fish on minkies and Cormorants fished rolly polly on a fast glass line
Pike Fishing
The influx of cooler water and an improvement in the visibility has switched the Pike onto the feed although no twenties were landed this week. With the Eyebrook season closing on the 31st October these next few weeks could give us the right conditions to see another Eyebrook 30lb+ pike. Fly fishing only for the pike with pike boats restricted to 5 a day.
