Its been the worst summer in my memory, for fishing that is, but certainly the best August for years. The rod average for this week was a comfortable 5.7 fish per rod and with 172 anglers visiting the reservoir, the boats have been particularly busy. Boats have enjoyed long drifts across open water. The favourite drift currently being the Hawthorn Hedge to netted bank or Three tress. Dry flies are generally catching most of the fish. Tan daddies, not too big, or a team of hoppers are doing the business. Nymphs have also worked fished on a washing line. A red holographic Diawl Bach is always a favourite here at Eyebrook.
Bank anglers have caught fish, particularly during the morning. The hawthorns or Belle are top spots with the dam wall certainly worth a try. Remember to wear a life jacket whist fishing the dam wall. Life Jackets are supplied at the lodge.
Conditions have been pretty good all week, with the occasional exception of heavy showers or a blusterier period. Roy and Bill bank fished on Monday morning. Conditions were ‘spot on’ for dries fished along the weed beds around the Belle and Hawthorn hedge. Both anglers caught, and Bill had 5 nice fish, a couple with silver rays running through their tails. Mr Thomas and friends enjoyed a short two-day break with us at Eyebrook. The group of 5 anglers enjoyed the good sport and caught on Cdc’s and other dries. Tuesday was very much a day of two halves. Perfect conditions to start the day, a steady south westerly with cloud cover turned in to bright with flat calm periods by 2.00pm. Typically warden Jobe had an early finish that day and began his afternoon session at 2.00pm just as the sun broke through! He fished various hoppers and found the fish much preferred them fished sub surface, with hares ear or black taking most fish. Dave Shear had a very successful morning session and caught 7 fish, 5 of which fell to daddies the other 2 took a blob.
Eyebrook guide and fishery warden Lee Henfrey has had some exceptional sport his week, fishing the reservoir on all three of his days off! Lee has recorded ‘cricket scores’ whilst fishing a pale natural daddy with plenty of floatant to ensure it sat proudly on the surface. Lee knows all of our waters exceptionally well and has fished Eyebrook since he was a boy. Having represented the country numerous times, he is an expert in all areas of fly fishing. The rod average has been steady throughout the week, Thursday saw an average of 5.9 . Member Pete Welton and boat partner Mr Taylor caught 15 fish between them whilst drifting the front of the dam wall. Terry Bayes and boat partner Ash cooper had an exceptional day catching on various methods fished high in the water, from a drifting boat. Jamie Scott caught 9 fish including a 4lb brown trout on a Midas, Pheasant tail nymph and black cormorants fished on a floating line.
Conditions were pretty appalling for Sunday. Extremely heavy rain from 11.00 am and winds with gusts of 30 mph made for challenging conditions. Blobs or white lures worked best, pulled through the wave. Mr Darlow and Mr Evens caught over 20 fish from the middle of the basin and had several double hook ups. Mr Mitchel and Mr Burn caught 11 fish each on Fabs (foam arsed blobs) and daddies, again pulled through the surface to induce a take.
The forecast for the week ahead is for overcast days with a south westerly wind. We have another 1100 fish scheduled to be stocked this week so the good sport will continue!

We are allowing rudders & float tubers welcome. We will also have float tube available for you to hire at the Eyebrook this season.

Lodge will be open from 7.30am for bank anglers to book in with boats available from 8.30am
We will be operating the same pricing structure that we use at our other water with the permit loyalty card & boat loyalty card valid at all our waters.
Please be aware with our upper fish limit been reduced from 8 fish to a 6 fish limit in future all 8 Fish stamps will be eligible for a free 6 fish permit once you reach the required number of stamps
