Not an easy week at Eyebrook for an array of reasons. North winds, bright flat calm days, gin clear water, an abundance of damsel nymphs and pin fry made things what we refer too as ‘challenging’ ! For most of the week, before water temperatures hit nearly 20 degrees there were a lot of fish feeding in the surface, chasing damsel nymphs or ploughing through the giant shoals of pin fry. Most anglers found fishing frustrating, lots of offers too dry fly but very few connecting with the hook. Damsel nymphs and Pin fry are two of the hardest patterns to replicate with a fly, the fish become very preoccupied. Most anglers found that a single dry fly was the only option, a hares ear CDC or small black hopper fished static producing the best results. Bank anglers have had good success into the evenings with an abundance of large sedge on the water, best areas have been stoke dry or the Island.
Monday was a day of two halves. Perfect conditions to start, Overcast and a steady breeze with fish slowing in various areas of the reservoir. Member Mark Hunt fished Stoke Dry to the cowshed and found the fishing frustrating to start. Lots of offers but the fish were just ‘coming short’ and swirling at the fly. Mark tried nearly every method he had confidence in but too no avail. As the day progressed the cloud broke away leaving the sun high and bright in the sky, surprisingly the fish continued to rise. Mark fished into the afternoon with a single Hares Ear CDC pattern and eventually managed to connect with 11 fish. John Witehead also fished dry flies at Stoke Dry. He found a single or CDC or a black shipmans buzzer worked best. John netted 7 fish for an afternoon session.
Tuesday conditions were better, a stronger north Easterly wasn’t perfect but at least there was cloud cover. Most boats were drifting the north end of the reservoir. John Smith and boat partner John had a great day. Fishing with orange daddies, Olive buzzers and black hoppers the pair caught 16 fish to the boat whilst drifting Stoke Dry and the Willows. Member and regular bank angler Malcolm Thompson fished along the willows tress and The Hawthorn hedge. Fishing with a Frazer nymph variant and a large bushing dry fly into the evening he caught 9 fish.
Wednesday fished well with most anglers finding a fish or two. Members Clive and Ian caught a dozen fish at Robbos cabin and damsel nymphs and blobs. Draycote Member Ed Douglas fished the dries at the North end of the Reservoir and caught 14 fish including 5 lb 8oz brown trout. James Besson bank fished into the evening and caught 7 fish on a washing line and crunchers. James also had a surprise when he netted a brown trout of over 5lbs. (we ask that all brown trout to be returned to preserve the wide stocks)
Many anglers found the fishing tough for Friday into the weekend. Lots of fish pushing water and moving in the surface but were extremely hard to tempt. Andy Smith caught 7 fish from a boat on Dry flies. Darren Blackshaw had a great evening and caught 7 fish in the last hour whilst bank fishing in Sams Dyke. All Darrens fish came to large sedge patterns.
Its not always big flies that catch big fish. Mr Spooer was delighted to net to net a 9lb 2 brown trout that took his size 12 CDC at Stoke Dry. The fish was safely returned and swam away strongly. Into the weekend there were more fish being caught at depth in the deeper water. Mr Wilson caught 11 fish on a di5 and orange booby drifting and Mr Haye fished size 10 buzzers with a long leader and had a successful day.
Sunday was an extremely tough day. Flat clam and extremely bright left anglers struggling to find the fish. Most fished over deeper water and found no consistency to what method worked best. Fishing should improve with cooler conditions forecast for the week ahead.
After another successful bank tuition day on Saturday, here at Eyebrook we look forward to hosting the New for the 2018, boat tuition days. These days are run to a similar format as the popular bank tuition days, with the difference being that the fishing is taught from a boat. In this section instructors will show participants the correct way to start & drive the boat, anchoring , drifting and boat etiquette. This is a perfect chance to learn to boat fish just in time for the warmer temperatures pushing the fish towards the middle. Eyebrook reservoir is the venue for the new Loch Style Team championships. The two-day event held on the 30th June and 1st July has the .biggest pay out in team fishing with a price pot of £6500!! Teams of 6, to enter please follow the link below,

Eyebrook Tuition dates 2018
Sunday 3rd June, Saturday 14th July (boat course). Sunday 12th August (Boat Course) Saturday 8th September, Sunday 7th October.
Eyebrook is the venue for this years Disabled international. The two-day event will take place on 26th and 27th June. We are currently looking for boat men to help on the day and monitor anglers whilst fishing. IF you can offer your help for one or two days please speak to a member for the Eyebrook staff or get in touch with the English Disabled Fly fishers.
Notice to all anglers.
We ask that all anglers respect each other whilst fishing or motoring in a boat. No anglers boat or bank should be less than 50 meters apart. If a boat is anchored less than 50 meters from a bank, a bank angler can ask the boat to move out to 50 meters.

Lodge will be open from 7.30am for bank anglers to book in with boats available from 8.30am
We will be operating the same pricing structure that we use at our other water with the permit loyalty card & boat loyalty card valid at all our waters.
Please be aware with our upper fish limit been reduced from 8 fish to a 6 fish limit in future all 8 Fish stamps will be eligible for a free 6 fish permit once you reach the required number of stamps
