Not the easiest of weeks this week at Eyebrook. Mainly due to the changeable weather conditions. Things did improve into the weekend however with Sunday seeing a rod average of 3.9. The best sport is certainly to be had whilst fishing dries or in the top few inches of water. Boats have been drifting the main basin and have caught in most areas of the reservoir. Bank anglers have struggled with the northerly winds but caught over the weekend from the dam wall and Hawthorn hedge. Damsels, Blobs and fry patterns are working fished on a floating line. Diawl bachs and corixa patterns working well around the margins fished on a washing line. Dries are the most productive way of fishing at the moment. Cdc’s,, shipman’s, hoppers and daddies are all working.
Stuart Bilsden and John Woodings boat fished on Monday. Taking 11 fish to the boat on daddies, Cdc’s and hoppers the pair found feeding fish 100 yards off Robbos cabin and drifted the area for most of the day. Conditions were terrible for Tuesday and Wednesday. Strong north winds and heavy rain did not do the fishing any good. A few hardy anglers braved it. Neil Benjamin and Ian Simmons boat fished and caught 6 fish on a black CDC taking shelter from the wind off the point of the island.
Friday and into the weekend fished considerably better. More fish were feeding on the surface and anglers reported more confident takes. Dr T Holmes and Mr D Dearman boat fished. Starting their drifts from the Island and drifting towards Pollards jump the pair caught 10 fish on natural foam daddies. Father and Son team Mr D and P Angell boat fished and caught 9 super rainbows. They found the fish went on the feed after 5.00 and were taking off the surface. They fished a crippled midge and a Yellow owl CDC drifting around the Island.
Sunday saw the best rod average of the week, a much more like it 3.9 with serval anglers catching 10 plus fish. Damsel worked and the usual dries, CDC and hoppers. Mr Jacobs caught 10 fish for an afternoon session fishing a Yellow Owl or a claret Hopper. Greame Bell had a cracking day netting fish continuously throughout the day. He finished up with 18 to the boat caught ona mix of Owls and a minkie fry pattern from all over the main basin. Mr Bettinson and grandson caught 6 fish for their morning session from the dam wall. Hopefully with more settled conditions the rod average will remain high. It won’t be much longer before we start to see daddies appear on the water. Which will certainly get the fish into a feeding frenzy. Orange foam daddies always seem to work best here at Eyebrook.
Please note the beginner’s tuition day on the 2nd September is now fully booked.
Please remember due to the wild population of brown trout we ask that ALL brown trout are to be returned to the water.
Water Temperature is 17 degrees, 1100 rainbow trout stocked this week, bringing the season total to over 19,500 with another 6,000 to be stock over the next 8 weeks!
