More settled conditions have only improved the fishing at Eyebrook. Bank anglers have enjoyed great sport with a mass off fish feeding on the abundance of corixa and fry in the margins. Dogwood bay and the Belle are fishing particularly well with most anglers choosing not to wade. Boats are enjoying long drifts across the basin and catching well to emerger and dry fly patterns.
The week started slow with changing conditions but settled by mid week. Ian Jobe boat fished, drifting from Mucky bay towards the willows and caught 7 fish on a mini snake. Dave Shaer fished from an anchored boat in front of the dam wall and also caught 7 fish on an intermediate and a white fritz lure.
Stuart Bildsen boat fished on Thursday in reasonably wet conditions. He drifted the mian basin and found feeding fish from the middle of the basin to Robbos. He fished a pair of foam daddies and caught 10 fish.
Warden Jobe Burnham fished twice this week during his days off. Firstly, on Tuesday he boat fished at the Chestnut tree and Mucky bay. Making short drifts over the weed he fished a pair of size 14 yellow Owl CDC’s and took a fish or two on most drifts. As the sun became more prevalent around mid-day less fish could be seen rising so after a couple of drifts of not connecting to a fish, Jobe changed tactics to a slow intermediate and a fry pattern he had tied the evening before. Making longer drifts and covering the slightly deeper water Jobe connected with several fish including a beautiful brown of around 4 lbs and a rainbow of close to 5lbs. After a successful day Jobe was keen to fish again and fished on Saturday. A strong cold west wind prevailed making presentation difficult. Jobe fished a orange daddy and a natural daddy 8 feet apart and caught fish drifting from the Hawthorn hedge into open water. The fish weren’t committing very well and several fish bow waved behind the fly and didn’t connect. Jobe finished the day having netted 10 good rainbows including one fine overwintered specimen of 4lb 6oz.
Conditions were ‘spot on’ on Sunday and lots of fish were showing. Bank angler Bob Margery bank fished. Catching 9 fish before 11 o’clock bob was pleased with his morning. He caught his fish on a red headed diawl bach fished on a washing line with a white booby on the point. The boats did equally well and fish were reported to have been caught from various areas of the reservoir. Rupert Gibson enjoyed some great dry fly action. Fishing with daddies and hoppers he boated 10 fish whilst drifting around the Island. Danny Lovegrove caught his 6 fish during an afternoon session on a floating fry and red Diawl Bachs whilst drifting from the middle of the basin to Robbos. Sundays rod average, a respectable 4 fish per rod.
Water Temperature is 17 degrees, 1100 rainbow trout stocked this week, bringing the season total to over 19,500 with another 6,000 to be stock over the next 8 weeks!
